A trustworthy Tuesday

  1. I look through the window and the sky above the hills is pink and it is perfect as perfect can be.
  2. It took me more than a week to make that call, but now I know why. I am learning to trust my instincts.
  3. She lets out a timid laugh. We are shopping for her first bras.

Monday heat

  1. We spend our break eating burek in the shade of the trees, with no people in sight, ignoring the parking lot at our back. I drift away.
  2. I think “library” and Jay suggests: “Let’s go to the library!” Mindreaders they are, my girls.
  3. Their laughter is like a cool breeze on my hot troubled soul.

Sunny day

  1. I go upstairs to start on my weekend morning workout but then I just lie down on the bed in the guest room and listen to the sounds coming through the open window.
  2. Jay is tired, so tired in the evening. I ask her why she didn’t take that afternoon nap with me but rather put away books and clutter from the nightstands instead, and she says confidently: “It was the right day to do it.”
  3. The movie on the TV spills over excitement over travelling to new places, meeting new people and opening oneself to new adventures.

Friday at 2063 m alt.

It has been my big wish to be able to go hiking someplace really high sometime this summer... like back many years ago when I hiked to just about every peak (but one) in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps range...
And today I did it.
I took the day off from work, animated our family and we drove off to the mountain hut at 1500 m alt. and from there the three of us continued on to the top of the mountain Raduha, 2063 m alt. It took me 2 hours to get there which is 30 minutes more than what the signs suggested. Not a timing I should brag about, but my fit isn't either. It has been a challenge for me, indeed. And for Em, my 11-year old. I am very proud of her.

I am happy, still full of adrenaline and penetrated by all those energizing negative ions, and making plans for the next tour.

The top of Raduha, only 2 hours' hike away.

Just 10 minutes to go!

At the top of the mountain, with a magnificient view
of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps and Julian Alps far right, in the mist.
It was worth it, every step.

Sunday afternoon out in the open

We spent some time at the open-air museum at Rogatec.
1. A cottage surrounded by the vineyard...
2. Beehives (this one's for you, Rebecca!) found, bracelets lost...
3. And old houses, my favorite!

Wednesday’s for learning

  1. Jay manages to strike the birdie with the racquet and I tell her what a great badminton player she is learning to be. “I have started to learn two new things: swimming without armbands and badminton!” she says smiling. I have forgotten what joy it is to learn new things and it is nice to be reminded again.
  2. “Mommy, all houses have to face the highest mountain in Bali! And they can’t be any higher then a palmtree!” And then, when the documentary is over and we are ready for sleep, I grab the atlas and look for Bali, and then Em has to find Tahiti, all because I had a penfriend there back when I was a teenager.
  3. I read a passage from the book about family values and it depicts my situation exactly, and then I know that my feelings make sense. Sometimes.

Another working day

  1. Breakfast to take to the office and breakfast for the fortunate ones staying at home.
  2. I am finished gardening just as I feel raindrops on my sweaty skin.
  3. We occupy the big bed and nothing can tear us apart.
